Moving away to university is an exciting time but sometimes can be a bit daunting. Here are a few tips to make it easier for you:
- In your first year you can usually choose to stay in halls or off campus in a house share- it makes life easier if you and your housemates agree on some house rules at the beginning over cleaning, money, cooking
- Location- Before you decide on your accommodation research the local area, housing further away from the university is a little cheaper but don’t forget to add in costs for travel and the time that it takes to get there.
- Viewing a property-it’s a great idea to write a checklist of things that you need in a house before the viewing, often you can’t think properly at the appointment. Don’t be afraid to ask the viewer lots of questions.
- Budget- Most student rental properties include the bills but make sure that you check. Write yourself a list of the other things that you need to buy and make sure that you shop around. Shops like Home Bargains, B & M and Wilko are great for bargain household buys and often have special deals for student essentials
